Fongoli
In the heart of Umbria, set amongst the gently rolling hills of Montefalco is the Fongoli estate. The Fongoli family have been dedicated their lives to the production of wine for over 80 years, since Decio Fongoli Calvani acquired the Saint Marco estate and began producing wines made from the local Sagrantino and Sangiovese varieties. Today, the Fongoli estate comprises of 40 hectares, 26 hectares of which are vineyards, with another 14 hectares given to olive groves, oak and walnuts. In the centre of the property is a large villa where the winery is housed along with the barriques and caratelli for ageing the wines.
The wines of Fongoli are among the most renowned in the region and are very traditional. They reflect the character of the varieties and the Umbrian soils in their purest forms, from the Montefalco Rosso wines, which use a blend of local varieties such as Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Montepulciano, to the famous Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, which is one of the most powerfully-flavoured wines of Italy.
