Fietri
Fietri, owned by the di Capua family, is located between the provinces of Florence, Arezzo and Siena in the very heart of the Chianti Classico wine production region. The di Capua family have worked hard over the years to preserve and maintain the traditional ridged terraces, olive groves and forests which make up the Fietri estate and which were originally planted there to provide the residing family with all the resources necessary to live. They have totally restored the ten hectares of vineyard to their former glory and have also introduced, with particular care given to retaining the original landscape, a new modern winery equipped for the production of high quality wines. With the new winery finally completed in 2006, the winery now produces all of its wines in house and ages and bottles them on the estate. The winery is completely insulated to ensure the best thermal stability for the wine, and all the equipment and heating is powered by a boiler that uses the timber from the forests of the Fietri estate; a totally renewable resource that represents a significant contribution to its ecological efficiency.
The Chianti Classico produced by Fietri is almost ethereal in its complexity, with deep notes of fresh sage and mushroom on the nose that are rarely found in wines of such youth from the Chianti region any more. With the first ever vintage being 2006 a Riserva is still not available, but we are looking forward to tasting that great wine towards the end of 2011.
